Inter-China Chemical supplies pigmentary, functional and high-purity titanium dioxide products for plastics, coatings, inks, paper and advanced-material applications. Our portfolio includes application-specific rutile and anatase grades, the DR Series for plastics, the IR Series for solar heat management, and high-purity TiO₂ for electronic and specialty uses.
Product selection should be based on the resin or binder system, processing conditions, surface treatment, color requirements, durability and final application performance. Use the portfolio guide below to identify the relevant product family, recommended grades and supporting technical resources.

How to Select Titanium Dioxide for Industrial Applications
Titanium dioxide selection should not be based only on TiO2 content or a single whiteness value. Crystal form, surface treatment, dispersion, processing behavior, optical performance, durability and the final application system must be evaluated together.
Start with the Application System
Each polymer, coating or specialty-material system places different demands on titanium dioxide. The table below provides an initial product-selection framework.
| Application | Primary Evaluation Requirements | Recommended ICC Starting Point |
|---|---|---|
| Masterbatch, film and general plastics | Color, opacity, dispersion, filter pressure value, melt flow and processing volatility | DR-2588 |
| High-loading and high-temperature plastics | Moisture uptake, oil absorption, particle spots, melt flow and high-temperature processing | DR-2588+ |
| Pigment pastes, color chips and flexible PVC | Whiteness, hiding power, tinting strength and dispersion in liquid or plasticized systems | DR-2588T |
| Outdoor-durable plastics | Weatherability, chalking resistance, opacity, heat stability and appearance retention | DR-2589 |
| PC and engineering plastics | Lightness, yellowing control, polymer stability, melt flow and mechanical-property retention | DR-2688 |
| Architectural and industrial coatings | Opacity, color, dispersion, gloss, weatherability and binder compatibility | Coating Grades |
| White and light-color solar-reflective systems | Lightness, total solar reflectance, near-infrared reflectance and exterior durability | IR-600 |
| Colored, dark and wide-gamut solar-reflective systems | Target color, NIR reflectance, pigment package, substrate and film thickness | IR-1000 |
| Electronic and specialty materials | Purity, trace metals, particle control and downstream material compatibility | High-Purity TiO₂ |
Rutile and Anatase Titanium Dioxide
Rutile titanium dioxide is commonly selected for applications requiring strong optical performance, exterior durability and stable processing. It is widely used in coatings, plastics, inks and other industrial formulations.
Anatase titanium dioxide is selected for application-specific whiteness, dispersion, purity and processing requirements. Crystal form should be selected according to the intended system rather than treated as a simple quality ranking.
Why Surface Treatment Matters
Inorganic treatments such as alumina and silica influence surface activity, durability, wetting and compatibility. Organic surface treatments can further adjust dispersion, moisture uptake, melt behavior and processing performance.
Two products with similar TiO₂ content may therefore perform very differently in the same resin, binder or production process.
Evaluate More Than the Certificate of Analysis
| Performance Dimension | Typical Evaluation Indicators | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Color | L*, a*, b*, whiteness and tinting strength | Confirms appearance and color efficiency in the actual system |
| Dispersion | Fineness, sieve residue, particle spots and filter pressure value | Affects surface quality, screen pressure and continuous processing |
| Processing | Melt flow, viscosity, oil absorption, moisture and volatility | Determines throughput, formulation stability and processing window |
| Optical Performance | Opacity, transmittance, TSR, NIR and spectral reflectance | Connects pigment selection with visible appearance and thermal management |
| Durability | UV exposure, color difference, gloss retention and chalking | Confirms performance retention during outdoor service |
| Engineering Properties | Impact, tensile, thermal and mechanical-property retention | Essential for PC and other engineering-plastic applications |
Recommended Product-Qualification Process
- Define the resin or binder system, substrate, processing conditions and end-use target.
- Select a product family according to the required optical, processing and durability performance.
- Compare candidate grades using the same formulation, pigment loading, specimen preparation and test conditions.
- Evaluate finished-product performance instead of relying only on powder specifications.
- Confirm the result through pilot production, extended processing or application-specific validation.
Regulatory note: Food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, medical and food-contact uses require application-specific regulatory status, documentation and customer validation. Suitability for these uses should not be inferred from general industrial-grade product information.
